The new SFJAZZ Center building opened in 2013 and provides a hub for jazz performance and education, from the roots of the art form to its contemporary international expressions. The space includes a Digital Lab offering courses in digital music production, digital technology, and audio recording, as well as digital DJing. Online, jazz fans can explore curated playlists as well as the center’s Video Vault and YouTube Channel, which encompass concert excerpts, rehearsal footage, behind-the-scenes shorts, educational segments, interviews, and commentary, as well as videos featuring the SFJAZZ Collective. Segments and interviews from the weekly radio program Jazz at the Center can be streamed online and followed on SoundCloud while the SFJAZZ mobile app and blog keep fans up-to-date on performances and news. Recently SFJAZZ was awarded CENIC’s 2015 Innovations in Networking Award for the Performing Arts for their use of high-speed broadband to create a collaborative cyber-symposium about pianist Mary Lou Williams connecting eight institutions.
